SHAKEELA LIKELY TO GET OTT RELEASE
“Shakeela” a biopic based on life of adult star of South Indian cinema is releasing in theaters on Christmas. It will be released in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil. Richa Chadda plays the lead role of Shakeela. Pankaj Tripathi and Malayalam actor Rajeev Pillai also feature in the film. The film produced by Sammy and Sahil Nanwani has been directed by Indrajit Lankesh and its teaser has just been released. The teaser starts with a voiceover describing the power of Shakeela, who was sought after by distributors and exhibitors when film business suffered in South. “Today once again cinema halls are empty and she is being called”, the narrator says in the teaser. Shakeela herself was present at the time of release of teaser and praised everyone associated with the film. She praised Richa Chadha and said that she has done complete justice to my character. The film promises to be great “tell all” tale of enchanting adult superstar. One of the biggest releases since the lockdown, the exhibitors of the film are hopeful to bring viewers back to the theaters as was the case with release of every film in which Shakeela featured during her prime time.”
Shakeela born in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh on November 18, 1990 made her debut in 1995 at the age of 16 years with the Tamil film ‘Playgirls’ and since then has acted in over 250 films in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. Most of her films were soft-core and made her a major sex symbol in 1990s and early 2000s. One of her big hit films ‘Kinnarathumbikal’ in Malayalam brought her into limelight and resulted in unprecedented craze in every age group. The male dominated film industry felt threatened by her popularity and stardom. Her B-Grade films were also dubbed in almost all Indian languages including Nepalese, Chinese and Sinhala.
