Child care is also under equipment research and development

  • Smart diaper will prompt to change itself

  • Children often fall ill due to wetness

  • Parents will get timely warning

  • Older people may get benefit

New Delhi: Child care is not an easy task. If children are small then this task

becomes more difficult and with responsibilities. Scientists paid attention towards

this. On the basis of this, smart type diapers have been prepared for children of

younger age. Diapers are also a reason for deteriorating mental condition and

health of young children. Sometimes due to wet diapers, children not only get

irritated but sometimes they also get cold due to this. Sometimes parents of

children get upset due to crying and teasing of children.

Now scientists have made a smart type of diaper to get rid of this problem. Using

this, the parents of the child will themselves know when to change the baby’s

diaper. The smart diaper sends a message to their mobile prompting them to

change the diaper. Especially for this, some lightweight equipment has been

installed in it, which constantly monitors it.

Smart diapers include some devices with common diapers that detect its wetness.

For this, very light type sensors have been installed in the device. Also, an

antenna with sensors has been added to it. The sensor can automatically detect the

fabric getting wet. In this, the indication of wetting is transmitted by the antennas

to the parents of the children themselves. This does not require to see the diaper

again and again.

Child care will be easy with this new addition

On the other hand due to lack of attention, children do not remain in wet state for

long. It has also added the feature that through this antenna, messages can be

transmitted to a computer other than a smartphone. In developed countries where

both parents are employed, this type of arrangement is sure to get better benefits

as it also helps them in raising a child after returning home.

The sensor in this smart diaper has been told that an RFID tag has been installed

in it. This sensor is placed under the wetting soak part of the baby’s diaper. With

this, the device is never in direct contact with the child’s body. Generally, today’s

diapers contain gels that absorb moisture. This sensor keeps doing its work under

the layer of this prison. The antennas attached to it are also for the child’s body. It

is not in direct contact with the rear. It transmits the signal to a radio signal

generator near him. From there, arrangements have been made to send this

message to the parents of the child by various means.

Continuous improvement in the design of smart diapers

The interesting thing is that the design of smart diapers has now been improved in

this sequence. Under this, the gel used to absorb moisture in the diaper itself is

used as an antennas. This has also reduced the cost of preparing it. According to

the general estimate, it costs less than two cents to make one such diaper. For this

reason, it is not only economical but is also going to prove to be a relief to

After developing it, scientists are now working on its further link. Under this,

preparations are being left to monitor the health of children on these smart

diapers. Separate sensors are also being developed for that. It is believed that after

the completion of this research, many children can be monitored simultaneously

with the help of these smart diapers. Such work will be very effective in hospitals

caring for young children.

Pankhuri Sen of MIT’s AutoID Lab associated with this type of research said that

once it is ready, it can also be used in diapers made for older people. On getting

this facility even for older people, the infection caused by moisture will also be

prevented. Many times, people of old age especially get urinary track infection

due to this moisture and not changing diaper on time.

The good thing is that most of the people involved in this entire child care

equipments research process are Indians. Apart from Pankhuri Sen, researchers

like Sai Nitin Kant Reddy, Rahul Bhattacharya and Sanjay Sharma are involved

in preparing it.
